Acclaimed Ghanaian filmmaker and CEO of Sparrow Studios, Shirley Frimpong Manso, has launched a new YouTube channel, Sparrow Station, to distribute her company’s content and showcase African excellence.
At the launch event held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Ms Manso emphasized the impact of film on society, stating that filmmakers are not just storytellers, but catalysts for change.
She highlighted the power of film to reshape perceptions, inspire new perspectives, and challenge societal norms.
Manso reflected on her 18-year journey as a filmmaker, recounting how she overcame her fears and doubts to create successful films. She announced that Sparrow Studios would be exploring YouTube as a new distribution platform, praising the video streaming giant’s transformation in recent years.

The Sparrow Station YouTube channel will feature a range of content, including movies, series, and shows that showcase African excellence.
She introduced the “Watch to Create” model, where viewership will directly inspire new content. The more viewers engage with the channel, the more content Sparrow Studios will create.
To kick off the channel, Sparrow Productions will premiere its new movie, “For Love and Country,” on March 6, 2025. The film features an all-star cast, including Naa Ashorkor, Lydia Forson, Caroline Sampson, Jackie Appiah, and Melvin Dain.
With the launch of Sparrow Station, Manso aims to take African storytelling to the global stage, promoting cultural exchange and understanding. As she noted, “Our pledge is to deliver exceptional films, series, and shows that showcase African excellence.”
