Ghanaian rapper Guru NKZ has revisited his long-standing issues with highlife and afrobeats star Kuami Eugene, stating that the young musician’s recent struggles in the industry reflect a warning he gave him years ago.
Speaking in a recent interview, Guru claimed that at the peak of Kuami Eugene’s career, he reached out for a collaboration but was turned down. According to him, Kuami Eugene declined the request because Guru was then in a public dispute with his former label boss, Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment.
Guru recounted that the rejection was not based on artistic differences but rather on loyalty to the label executive.
“He told me he couldn’t work with someone who had issues with his boss,” Guru said, adding that the response came at a time when Eugene was enjoying immense success and influence.
The rapper explained that he cautioned Kuami Eugene to remain humble, as the music industry is unpredictable.
“This industry will humble you,” he said. “What I warned Kuami Eugene about years ago has now happened he’s living proof.”
Guru emphasized that his comments were not meant to mock the singer during a difficult period but to highlight the realities of showbiz.
“I told him to watch out this game has a way of bringing people back down. Today, he’s the perfect example. He used to carry himself like he was untouchable,” he noted.
Despite the past tension, Guru expressed genuine concern for Kuami Eugene, who has faced a series of career setbacks and public controversies in recent times.
“I genuinely pray he recovers and bounces back,” he added, saying that every artiste goes through highs and lows and that he hopes the “Wish Me Well” hitmaker finds his footing again.
Guru’s remarks have reignited conversation about relationships, loyalty, and humility within the Ghanaian music industry, drawing mixed reactions from fans and industry stakeholders.
