President John Dramani Mahama chose compassion over celebration on his 67th birthday, dedicating the day to children receiving medical care at the LEKMA Hospital and the Maamobi Polyclinic. The gesture, which has been widely praised, reflects his long-standing commitment to improving health outcomes for children across the country.
In a message to Ghanaians, President Mahama expressed deep appreciation for the birthday wishes, prayers, greeting cards, and flowers he received, particularly the thoughtful gesture from First Lady Lordina Mahama. He noted that spending quality time with young patients was not only fulfilling but also a reminder of the responsibility leaders have toward the nation’s future.
Accompanied by the First Lady, the President toured the children’s wards of both facilities. They interacted with patients, comforted parents, and distributed assorted items, including essential supplies and tokens aimed at easing the financial burden of families caring for hospitalized children. The visit, he said, reaffirmed his belief that every child—regardless of background—deserves access to quality healthcare.
President Mahama highlighted that the smiles and resilience of the children strengthened his determination to pursue the #ResettingGhana agenda, a national effort focused on improving social services, revitalizing healthcare infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for young people.
He emphasized that a country’s progress is measured not only by economic figures but also by how well it protects its most vulnerable citizens. “Seeing their little faces light up reminded me why Resetting Ghana must succeed,” he said. “We must build a Ghana where every child can receive proper medical care and grow in an environment that supports their dreams.”
The President also delivered a heartfelt tribute to the healthcare workers at both facilities, describing them as the “real heroes” who work tirelessly to save lives and bring comfort to families. He commended their dedication, professionalism, and resilience, acknowledging the crucial role they play in sustaining the nation’s health system.
As messages of goodwill continue to pour in from across the country, many Ghanaians have applauded President Mahama for using his birthday to highlight the importance of child welfare and quality healthcare a gesture they say reflects humility, empathy, and true leadership.
