“The Law Is the Law” — President Mahama Tells Asake After Plea Over Cyborg’s Arrest.

President John Dramani Mahama has sent a strong message on the supremacy of the rule of law after Nigerian music star Asake reportedly attempted to appeal for leniency following the arrest of an individual known as Cyborg, who was allegedly involved in a gun salute incident carried out in the artiste’s honour.
Asake is said to have paid a courtesy visit to the President, during which he raised concerns over Cyborg’s arrest. The arrest followed an incident in which a firearm was allegedly discharged as a celebratory salute an act prohibited under Ghana’s firearms laws.

Responding directly to the appeal, President Mahama reportedly told the artiste, “The law is the law,” making it clear that no individual, regardless of fame or influence, is above Ghana’s legal system. His firm response underscored his administration’s commitment to justice, accountability, and public safety.
The President’s remarks have since sparked widespread discussion, particularly on social media, with many Ghanaians applauding his no-nonsense stance on law enforcement. Others have used the incident to highlight the dangers of celebratory gunfire, which has previously resulted in injuries and fatalities in parts of the country.

Security analysts continue to warn against the glorification of gun salutes at events, stressing that such actions endanger lives and undermine national security efforts. Ghana’s laws strictly regulate firearm possession and use, with clear penalties for offenders.
Although Asake has yet to issue a public statement on the matter, the episode serves as a reminder to public figures and their associates to actively discourage unlawful acts carried out in their name.
As investigations and legal processes continue, President Mahama’s message remains clear and uncompromising, respect for the law is non-negotiable, and justice will take its course without fear or favour.
