The Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has appointed all four of his former presidential primary contenders as Co-Chairmen of newly established NPP Policy Committees in a move widely viewed as a strategic effort to strengthen party unity ahead of the next general elections.
Political analysts say the decision marks one of the most significant reconciliation and restructuring efforts in recent Ghanaian opposition politics, as the NPP seeks to reposition itself after leaving office.
The appointments bring together key figures who contested Dr. Bawumia during the party’s presidential primaries, signaling what many observers describe as a deliberate attempt to consolidate support across the various factions within the party.
The newly constituted policy committees are expected to spearhead the development of the NPP’s policy direction, governance proposals, and campaign strategies as the party prepares to challenge the governing administration in the next electoral cycle.
Sources within the party indicate that the committees will focus on critical sectors including the economy, education, health, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and digital transformation.

Analysts believe the inclusion of former rivals in top advisory and leadership roles could help reduce internal tensions while projecting an image of inclusiveness and cohesion to party supporters and the wider electorate.
Some political commentators have also described the move as a tactical masterstroke by Dr. Bawumia aimed at harnessing the expertise, political influence, and grassroots appeal of leading figures within the party rather than sidelining them after the fiercely contested primaries.
The development has already generated reactions among party faithful and political observers, with many praising the decision as a sign of maturity and strategic leadership within the NPP.
Although details of the specific committee structures and mandates are yet to be fully disclosed, party insiders say the initiative forms part of a broader rebuilding agenda intended to sharpen the NPP’s policy alternatives and electoral messaging.
The appointments are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s roadmap as it prepares for future political contests and attempts to regain power.
