New RMU Chancellor Committed to Enhancing Academic Excellence and Industry Partnerships

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has officially welcomed its new Chancellor, Alhaji Fanday Turay, who has pledged to prioritize academic excellence, industry partnerships, diversity, and inclusion.

During his address at the 31st RMU Board of Governors meeting in Accra, Chancellor Turay outlined his ambitious vision for the university’s future.

He emphasized the critical need to foster a culture of innovation and critical thinking, equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in the dynamic marine industry. Chancellor Turay is committed to enhancing academic programs, investing in state-of-the-art learning equipment and infrastructure, and promoting robust research and development initiatives.

Chancellor Turay also underscored the importance of industry collaborations, vowing to strengthen partnerships with maritime organizations. His goal is to ensure that RMU remains at the forefront of maritime education, providing students with invaluable practical experience, exposure to industry trends, and enhanced employment opportunities.

In a bid to create an inclusive environment, Chancellor Turay highlighted his commitment to promoting diversity and supporting all members of the university community. He aims to encourage diverse perspectives and enrich both academic and social life on campus.

Alhaji Fanday Turay, who also serves as the Minister of Transport and Aviation in Sierra Leone, succeeds Mr. Ebrima Sillah of Gambia, who served as Chancellor for the past two years. With his induction, Chancellor Turay has also assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Governors.

The RMU community eagerly anticipates Chancellor Turay’s leadership, which promises to elevate the institution’s academic standards, strengthen industry partnerships, and uphold a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Under his guidance, RMU is poised to solidify its position as a premier maritime education institution.
