The Ministry of Health commemorates World Heart Day on Friday, September 27, 2024, at its auditorium, followed by a health walk on Saturday, September 28. The walk will begin at Ridge Hospital and conclude at Independence Square.

This initiative aims to raise awareness about heart health, promote early detection, and encourage collaborative action among various stakeholders.

Partnering with organizations like the World Heart Federation, Ghana Health Service, the Ghanaian Society of Cardiology, and the Stroke Association Support Network, the event will revolve around the theme, “Use Heart for Action.”

In a press statement, Chief Director Hafiz Adam emphasized the need to address the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the leading cause of death linked to risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and poor diets.

“There is hope: 80% of premature deaths from CVD are preventable. By adopting a healthy lifestyle eating nutritious meals rich in fruits and vegetables, staying physically active, avoiding alcohol and tobacco, reducing processed and salty foods, maintaining a healthy weight, managing stress, and regularly monitoring blood pressure we can significantly reduce our risk of CVD and improve our heart health,” he stated.
