Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has announced development in the country’s healthcare system.
Starting December 1, this year, all kidney patients enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will receive free dialysis treatment.
This initiative follows a successful pilot program that offered free kidney dialysis to patients aged 60 and above, as well as those under 18 years.
Dr. Bawumia made this announcement while campaigning in the Old Tafo constituency.
He emphasized that kidney diseases requiring dialysis can be costly and unaffordable for many, and this initiative aims to alleviate that burden.
This expansion of the NHIS will bring immense relief to individuals and families struggling with the financial burden of kidney disease treatment.
With this initiative, Ghana takes a significant step forward in ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for its citizens.
