PWDs receive assorted items from government in North Tongu

The government, through the North Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region has distributed assorted items to 55 persons with disability (PWDs) in the district in a bid to promote inclusivity and empowerment.

The items, valued at an undisclosed amount, included industrial sewing machines, ice chests, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, cassava grinding machines, wheelchairs, gas ovens, deep freezers, and sacks of charcoal amongst others.

Mr Albert Xenyo, the North Tongu Head of Social Welfare and Community Development stated that the items were intended to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the PWDs and promote their independence.

Mr Xenyo noted that school fees were paid for 22 pupils with disabilities, underscoring the government’s commitment to inclusive education.

Mr Divine Osborne Fenu, the North Tongu District Chief Executive, emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting PWDs.

He encouraged the PWDs to participate in the democratic process and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general elections.

Mr Fenu also urged them to promote peace and tranquility before, during, and after the elections.

Mr Ernest Adika, the Chairman of the Social Services Subcommittee and Disability Fund Committee told the Ghana News Agency that the beneficiary selection was based on a thorough assessment of persons with severe disability cases.

Mr Adika encouraged PWDs to utilize the items effectively and sustainably, ensuring they bring about tangible improvements in their lives.

Mr Battorvi Brown Cooper, the Chairman of the PWDs in the District, expressed gratitude to the government and the assembly for their support.

He pledged that PWDs would take good care of the items and ensure they were properly maintained.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote the welfare and empowerment of PWDs. Over the last three years, the government, through the District Assembly has supported over 300 PWDs to enhance their living conditions, demonstrating its commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
