Ato Forson Claims the Economy Will Not Be Affected by Scrapping the Betting Tax

By: Deborah Amewoyi

Finance minister designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has claimed that the removal of betting tax embedded in the National Democratic Congress’ campaign promises will not affect the country’s economy.

According to him, betting tax amounts to only Ghc 50.00 million yearly. “Some of the taxes are not bringing in any revenue that you should increase. For example, the betting tax is bringing in less than GHc50.00 million a year. It’s a nuisance tax and scrapping GHc50.00 million will not mean anything in a way that will affect the economy.” he indicated.

The finance minister designate said this during his ministerial vetting earlier today January, 13 2025. He also indicated that road tolls would be reintroduced citing the promise made by the NDC during their campaign.
