In a bid to combat the cholera outbreak in Cape Coast, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has engaged traditional leaders in the region. Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Acting Director-General of GHS, participated in a stakeholder engagement and also paid a courtesy call on the Oguamanhene.
During the visit, Prof. Akoriyea congratulated the traditional leader on his role in the community and invited him to the Central Region. He also praised the Oguamanhene for his support in the fight against cholera, acknowledging his quick response in visiting the region to meet with stakeholders regarding the outbreak.
Prof. Akoriyea assured the traditional leader that he would return to the region once the cholera outbreak was brought under control. This commitment demonstrates the GHS’s dedication to collaborating with traditional leaders and the community to address public health concerns.
The engagement with traditional leaders is a crucial step in the fight against cholera, as they play a vital role in mobilizing their communities and promoting health awareness. By working together, the GHS and traditional leaders can help prevent the spread of cholera and protect the health and well-being of the people in Cape Coast.
Prof. Akoriyea’s visit to the Central Region is also significant, given his recent appointment as the Acting Director-General of GHS. His leadership and commitment to public health will be essential in addressing the cholera outbreak and other health challenges facing the country.
