The Ministry of Education has responded to a recent publication in the Daily Graphic dated February 4, 2025, which carried the headline “Teacher Trainee Allowance to go.” According to the Ministry, the headline is misleading and does not accurately reflect the remarks made by the Honorable Minister during his interaction with stakeholders.

In a press release issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit, it was clarified that the Honorable Minister spoke about the government’s commitment to augmenting financial support for teacher trainees. He mentioned the possibility of exploring an enhanced loan scheme for students in the Colleges of Education, should the need arise. However, he emphasized that the existing teacher trainee allowances will remain intact until further discussions with relevant stakeholders are concluded.

The Ministry criticized the Daily Graphic for sensationalizing the issue and urged the newspaper to correct the narrative with the same prominence given to the original story. The Ministry also reminded media houses to verify their information to avoid unnecessary public anxiety.

Reiterating its commitment to supporting teacher trainees and advancing education delivery, the Ministry encouraged the public to disregard the misleading publication and rely solely on official communication for accurate updates.

This clarification reassures stakeholders and the general public of the government’s intention to prioritize the welfare of teacher trainees while ensuring that financial support mechanisms remain robust and responsive to their needs.
