The transport minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe is set to hold discussions with the various driver’s unions in the country over consecutive hikes in fuel prices since the begining of the year 2025.
During a media interaction, the minister indicated that unofficial engagements have been made with the transport unions to ease up tensions amongst drivers within the union over the fuel hikes. “Unofficially, I have engaged them, and tomorrow (February 11), we will continue discussions. They are cooperating, and from what I gather, they have urged their members to exercise patience while we work towards a mutually beneficial outcome” he revealed.

In preceeding events, the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union, GPRTU had served a release indicating that the increasing fuel prices with other operational expenses made it impossible to maintain the current transport fares
The transport minister is hopeful that negotiations after the meeting will suit both drivers and commuters.
