GES Warns Against Unauthorized BECE Registration Fees.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to Heads of Basic Schools who are allegedly imposing unauthorized Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration fees on final-year students. This follows complaints and social media reports suggesting that some school heads are demanding these fees, which GES has deemed unauthorized.

In a press release signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit, GES emphasized that all such fees are illegal and urged school heads to immediately discontinue the practice. The statement further instructed Regional Directors to inform District Directors to closely monitor the situation and caution all Heads of Basic Schools involved.

The GES directive mandates that any head who has collected unauthorized fees must promptly refund the monies, warning that failure to do so will attract sanctions. This move is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the registration process and ensuring that no student is unfairly burdened with additional costs.

Additionally, GES reminded all Heads of Basic Schools that late registration of candidates will not be permitted. Eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to avoid any complications.

The general public has been advised to take note of this directive, as GES remains committed to ensuring free and fair access to education without financial hindrances.
