The highest court of the land have barred the Koforidua High Court from sentencing Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi over contempt of court.

In a court proceeding earlier today, the supreme seeks to investigate the processes that took place at the high court following Ernest Kumi’s appeal to overturn a contempt of court conviction which was issued by the koforidua high court against him on Feburary 19.

In a 4-1 majority vote by the five member panel who deliberated on the case, Justice Gabriel Pwamang dissented whilst the remaining four pannel members approved the stay on the case.

The Akwatia MP have described the Koforidua high court’s ruling presided over by Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe as biased and prejudiced citing a judicial error committed by the high court judge.

The appeal indicated that the high court judge “assumed jurisdiction in a parliamentary election petition at the Akwatia constituency at a time when the Electoral Commission had not published the gazette notification of the results to which the election relates.”

The supreme court has scheduled March 12 for further deliberations on the certiorarai and prohibition of application of Mr. Kumi’s contempt case but until then the Koforidua High Court has been prohibited from arresting and sentencing the member of parliament.
