“I Won’t Interfere with Anti – Corruption Investigations” – Mahama.

In the midst of the rising on going anti corruption investigations, President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged that he deems it right not to interfere with anti corruption investigations.

During an interaction with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption, the president made this announcement reiterating his commitment to ensuring that public officials who default the law are held accountable. “Of course, the fight against corruption must be important because the ordinary people realise that the more the political elites steal, the more fewer resources are available for the most important things like heath care, like education and so on” he said.

He noted that the decision is in the quest to enhance the accountability of Ghana’s democratic governance, “since 7th January, we’ve been involved in a strong fight against corruption, we’ve published a code of conduct for political appointees, very stringent code” he addressed as efforts put in place towards ending Ghana’s fight against corruption.

However, he cited political interferences as the major barrier to Ghana’s fight against corruption and it’s related issues.

Significantly, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he would not get involved with anti corruption cases at the ministry of justice and other anti corruption agencies.

“I have told the public and assured the attorney general and minister of Justice that I’m not going to interfere in their work and if the anti – corruption agencies go after anybody I’m not going to influence them to drop any investigation aagainst anybody.

He singularly underscored the fact that the anti corruption investigations will imply to officials who served within the previous administration as well as this current administration.

Notably, the president has revealed that the ORAL committee has identified 33 cases on anti corruption and are working assiduously to investigate them so as to administer justice appropriately.

“They have found alot of evidence on procurement of properties, illicit wealth, some of them are just at the point of beginning prosecutions, some they have started prosecution and others are being lined up for prosecution. he said.
