Richie Mensah, CEO of Lynx Group Limited, parent company of Lynx Entertainment, has described it as selfish and unrealistic for record labels to expect artistes to remain with them indefinitely.
Speaking to the media, Richie addressed public concerns over the frequent departures of artistes from his label, including notable names like Eazzy.
He explained that the relationship between a label and an artiste is fundamentally contractual, and once an artiste feels equipped to manage their career independently, they have every right to move on.
“It’s selfish to say an artiste should never leave,” he said. “Labels provide a foundation—support and guidance—but eventually, the artiste may reach a point where they can take care of themselves.
From there, it’s their decision whether to continue with the label or pursue their own path.”
Responding to speculation that he might have grown tired of working with Eazzy, Richie dismissed the idea, emphasizing that departures are rarely personal.
Despite understanding the nature of the business, Richie admitted that parting ways with artistes is often emotionally difficult. “It hurts sometimes because I feel there’s still more I could do to support their journey,” he said.
Reflecting on the history of Lynx Entertainment, he noted that the only exit that truly surprised him was that of Asem, the label’s first signee. “That one caught me off guard because it was the first time it happened,” he shared.
Since then, Richie has come to accept that change is inevitable in the industry. “As the business grew, I realized artistes will always come and go. It’s part of the journey. Now, I prepare myself for it.”
