A section of trained teachers who were employed in August 2024 have threatened to embarked on a protest at the Ghana Education Services over delayed salary payments since they were employed.
An affected trained teacher from the 2022 year group badge of trained teachers during an interaction with Accra based Citinews revealed that the group have intended to picket at GES today over unmet conditions since their appointments in August 2024.
Solomon Opoku Gyan during the interaction presented that out of the 784 trained teachers that were employed, none of them have received salary payments since August last year. “We’ve worked for 10 months now without pay” he said.
Additionally, the trained teachers revealed that neither of them have been given staff identification cards since their appointments. “We don’t even have staff IDs. Every time we visit GES, they offer excuses. It’s too much, we’re suffering” he stressed.
Mr. Opoku has described these prolonged unmet conditions as appalling and has further resulted into negative repercussions in the lives of these trained teachers.
Significantly, this badge of trained teachers have resorted to a protest due to constant delay tactics and the lack of transparency from the GES.
Their intended prostest at the Ghana Education Service on June 23, today is in the quest to prompt the education service to work towards paying their salaries as well as acknowledging their status by issuing these trained teachers with staff Identification cards.
These trained teachers have been reported to have commenced their peaceful protest at the forecourt of the GES today, Reports from citinewsroom have indicated that officials of the GES have requested to meet the about 100 affected trained teachers behind closed doors exempting the media from partaking in ongoing conversations believed to be negotiations.
GES public relations officer, Daniel Fenyi indicated that the service’s decision to meet the about 100 trained teachers [and not their leaders only] was to ensure that all grievances are heard directly from the protesters. This – he said is to ensure transparency.
He further indicated that the media will be briefed on the outcome of the meeting with these staff.
