Renowned gospel musician and media personality Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye has filed a defamation lawsuit against self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Evangelist Mama Pat or Agradaa, at the High Court in Tema. The case seeks GH₵20 million in damages for alleged slanderous and libelous statements made by the Defendant on social media.
According to the statement of claim, Empress Gifty, who is the host of United Showbiz and U-Cook on United Television (UTV), asserts that Agradaa made a series of malicious and defamatory remarks during two live broadcasts on June 15 and June 17, 2025. These statements, made in both Twi and English, were streamed via Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, and have since gone viral.
The Plaintiff outlined a catalog of offensive remarks made by the Defendant, accusing her of prostitution, adultery, HIV infection, engaging in bestiality, and destroying the career of fellow celebrities. Agradaa is also said to have accused Empress Gifty of exploiting her marriage for financial gain, ruining her husband Hopeson Adorye’s life, and abandoning her ailing mother.
Gifty’s legal team insists that the allegations were entirely false, malicious, and intended to tarnish her hard-earned reputation, not only as a gospel musician and TV host but also as a brand ambassador for companies like Dede Classic, Dede Homes, and Kejeron Fabric.
“The Defendant’s words were calculated to damage the Plaintiff’s image, credibility, and professional prospects both locally and internationally,” the suit reads.
The Plaintiff claims that the defamatory broadcasts have caused her immense emotional distress, damaged her reputation, and led to a loss of endorsement opportunities. She also alleges that some of her international engagements scheduled for August 2025 have been put on hold as a result of the scandal.
The suit seeks the following reliefs:
GH₵20,000,000 in damages for slander and libel.
A perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from publishing further defamatory statements.
An order for the removal of all offensive content from the Defendant’s social media platforms.
Compensation for legal costs and fees.
Empress Gifty, who is married to politician Mr. Hopeson Adorye, maintains that she had previously rejected invitations to appear on Agradaa’s (now-defunct) TV station and believes the defamatory campaign is an act of spite and vengeance.
Legal representatives from Ossei Aiddooh Akpokavie & Co. filed the case at the High Court, Tema, and have requested the Court to urgently intervene to prevent further damage.
This lawsuit marks a significant escalation in tensions between public figures in Ghana’s entertainment and religious sectors, spotlighting the growing concerns over social media misconduct and reputational attacks in the digital era.
