The Ghana Police Service have foiled plans by three suspects to rob a gold consignment worth over One Million, Three Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 1.3 million) on June 26, 2025.
During an intelligence-led operation overseed by the Special Support Unit (SSU) of the Ghana Police Service, the three suspects; Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif and Kenneth Khartey were apprehended on the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe road. The police report indicated that Kenneth Khartey was arrested on a motorbike whilst trailing the land cruiser transporting the gold along the Akuapem – Mamfe road.
Subsequently, the two other suspects were arrested around East legon in Accra in an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle on that same day. Preliminary investigations have indicated that these two were responsible for selling the Gold after the planned robbery sails through. These two were reported to be in possession of firearms, motorbikes and a getaway vehicle for the robbery.
These suspects were apprehended when the police received intel on the planned robbery with “indications that a gold dealer’s driver and a man posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled gold delivery the following day.”
Momentarily, the police have assured that “the gold dealer was rescued safely and the gold, weighing approximately 1.2 kilograms and valued at GHC 1,350,343.53 was also secured.”
Meanwhile the three suspects are still in police custody assisting with investigations.
They are yet to be scheduled before the courts for further probing.
