Ghanaian singer and songwriter Cina Soul has publicly expressed concern for her safety following a disturbing comment made by actor and TV presenter Big Akwes during a live broadcast on Bryt TV. In a post shared on social media, Cina Soul tagged the Ghana Police Service and prominent public officials, stating that she feels “genuinely threatened.”
The singer revealed that she had initially chosen not to respond to earlier comments made by Big Akwes, as she did not wish to be associated with him. However, the situation has escalated to a point where she now feels compelled to speak out.
“@GhPoliceService I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual but at this point I feel genuinely threatened,” she wrote.
Cina Soul further appealed to the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, stressing the importance of taking a strong stance against hateful and harmful rhetoric on media platforms.
“It’s critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalize hate,” she added.
A video snippet attached to her tweet shows Big Akwes making remarks that many have since condemned as inciteful and inappropriate, particularly for public broadcasting.
The incident has sparked renewed discussions on media ethics and the responsibility of broadcasters and guests alike in ensuring safe and respectful discourse, especially when referencing public figures.
Neither Bryt TV nor Big Akwes has issued a public response as of the time of reporting. Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has been urged by social media users to take the matter seriously and ensure Cina Soul’s safety is not compromised.
