Seven newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court are scheduled to be sworn into office today, Thursday, July 3, in a ceremony to be held at the Jubilee House.

President John Dramani Mahama will administer the oath of office, officially inducting the Justices into the nation’s highest court. Their appointments follow parliamentary approval and a rigorous vetting process conducted earlier this year, in accordance with Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution.

The new Justices — all of whom bring extensive experience from the Court of Appeal and other judicial institutions — are expected to strengthen the Supreme Court’s capacity to manage an increasing caseload. Their expertise will be critical in handling matters related to constitutional interpretation, electoral disputes, and complex civil and criminal appeals.

The incoming Justices are:

  1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
  2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
  3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe
  4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
  5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah
  6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
  7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

Their confirmation by Parliament came despite some objections from the Minority, who raised concerns during the approval process.

This development marks a significant moment in the evolution of the country’s judiciary, with the new appointments expected to enhance the delivery of justice at the apex court.
