The Ministry of Energy and Green transition has announced that the country will experience a temporary blackout on Sunday, July 13 as part of its maintenance work to ensure effective delivery of power.
The sector minister, John Abdulai Jinapor speaking at the ceremony held for the reconstruction of the 161kv Anwomaso to Kumasi transmission line made this announcement indicating that as part of maintenance plans to increase gas production to about 270 million standard cubic feet (270 mmscf) daily, the ENI will turn of their valves to undertake this project leading to the temporary disruption in power supply.
“That is good news, means that we are stabilizing the power sector, the plant will be turned off for that short period during the day for maintenance works [and] we are likely to experience some interruption of power” he announced.
The minister has pleaded on the entire Ghanaian populace to cope with the situation come Sunday indicating that this move is in line with stabilizing the power sector.
He added that attempting to run the plants on liquid fuels during the maintenance period in order to keep the power on is unviable because it involves a lot of work. He then analyzed that transitioning from liquid fuels to gas and vice versa as risky to the energy sector.
The impending power outage (dumsor) is expected to span for about 4 to 6 hours during the day. “We are working around the clock to minimize any potential adverse impact during that period.” Mr. Jinapor assured.
He finally appealed to the Ghanaian populace to bear with the situation on Sunday.
Sunday’s dumsor is expected to undertake works towards the stabilization of gas supply, the increase in gas production and the overall improvement on the delivery of power in the country.
