In a bold cross-continental collaboration, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake and French rap star Tiakola have teamed up on a new single titled “BADMAN GANGSTA”—a fusion of languages, cultures, and musical styles that reflects the growing globalisation of African music.

Released via gamma., the track blends Afrobeat rhythms with French rap and R&B influences, offering a sound that is both distinctly African and undeniably international. It also marks Asake’s return to the music scene following the February release of “Why Love”, and sets the stage for his upcoming album Money, expected later this year.

More than just a single, “BADMAN GANGSTA” is a celebration of cultural identity and shared artistic ambition. Switching fluidly between Yoruba, French, and English, Asake and Tiakola use the song to explore themes of perseverance, ambition, and the realities of life in the spotlight.

“This song is a page from my real life,” Asake noted. “It’s about taking ownership of your journey—your struggles and successes alike. Working with Tiakola brought a unique energy; though we come from different worlds, we understand each other musically.”

Tiakola, who has gained a reputation for merging French street sounds with melodic vocal styles, highlighted the natural chemistry between the two. “Asake has always struck me as a complete artist. Despite the language and cultural differences, the feeling in our music connects us. That’s what makes this collaboration powerful.”

The single is accompanied by a cinematic music video, shot in a vintage black-and-white aesthetic. It features stylised visuals from Asake’s travels and performances, including scenes from Paris Fashion Week and global studio sessions, reinforcing the song’s message of borderless creativity and self-made success.

Sonically, “BADMAN GANGSTA” samples Amerie’s iconic early 2000s hit “1 Thing”, which is woven into the production alongside smooth guitar riffs and jazz-inspired saxophone tones. The result is a sonically rich and emotionally layered track that challenges genre limitations.

With this release, Asake continues to lead a wave of African artists pushing the boundaries of Afrobeats, connecting with new audiences, and collaborating across linguistic and cultural lines. “BADMAN GANGSTA” not only previews a new chapter in his career, but also highlights the evolving, borderless nature of today’s global music scene.
