Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has underscored the need for Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to cherish the country’s diversity as a source of strength and a driving force for development.
Speaking at the National Youth Conference, during a discussion on girl and young women’s participation in political leadership, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stressed that Ghana’s future depends on the ability of its citizens to rise above ethnic, regional, and political differences to work towards a common national goal.
“Ghana can only develop if we recognize that in our diversity lies strength,” she noted, adding that the country’s peaceful coexistence remains its greatest asset.
The legislator further highlighted that the harmony Ghana enjoys among its various ethnic groups is not a privilege to be taken for granted but a foundation upon which sustainable development can be built.
“The peace Ghana enjoys is what allows us to sit together with different ethnic groups and regions in harmony. Don’t let any politician take that from you,” she cautioned the youth.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings also reminded young people of their pivotal role in safeguarding unity and promoting tolerance, urging them to resist divisive tendencies that threaten the nation’s social fabric.
Her remarks come at a time when concerns about political polarization and ethnocentric rhetoric have been raised ahead of Ghana’s upcoming elections.
She called on leaders at all levels to set the right example by prioritizing national interest over personal or partisan gain.
