Ghana is mourning the reported passing of one of its most illustrious sons, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a visionary inventor, entrepreneur, and religious leader.
According to confirmed reports from both the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church, the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025. His death has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many describing it as the loss of a national treasure.
Often hailed as the “Star of Africa,” Apostle Safo was celebrated for his groundbreaking innovations that demonstrated Ghana’s potential in science and technology. Through the Kantanka brand, he pioneered the production of locally assembled vehicles, agricultural machinery, household gadgets, military-inspired vehicles, and even robotic prototypes. His creativity inspired generations and instilled confidence in Ghana’s ability to achieve technological independence.
Beyond his engineering achievements, Apostle Safo established the Kristo Asafo Mission, a unique religious movement that intertwined spirituality with practical problem-solving. Under his leadership, the church became one of the most vibrant indigenous ministries in the country, drawing thousands of followers and influencing communities far and wide.
He was also a philanthropist, dedicating resources to education, healthcare, and community development. His humanitarian efforts earned him admiration both in Ghana and abroad.
Already, tributes have begun pouring in. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), arrived at the residence of the late Apostle Safo Kantanka to commiserate with the bereaved family in their difficult time. Kennedy Agyapong, also an NPP parliamentary candidate, has likewise extended his condolences, praising the Apostle’s vision and impact on Ghana.
In the entertainment industry, celebrities including rapper Sarkodie and others have taken to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the man many regard as a national icon.
Funeral details are yet to be announced, but the outpouring of tributes from across politics, religion, and entertainment is proof of the indelible mark Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has left on Ghana and beyond.
His passing marks the end of an era but his vision and impact will continue to live on through the innovations and institutions he built.
