The Government of Ghana has announced a new producer price of cocoa, increasing it to GHS3,625 per bag or GHS58,000 per tonne, effective Friday, 3rd October 2025.
The decision was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during a stakeholder and media engagement in Accra on Thursday. He explained that the increment represents a 12.27% rise, equivalent to about GHS400 more per bag, compared to the price announced in August this year.
Dr. Forson stressed that the move demonstrates government’s strong commitment to ensuring improved incomes and better living standards for cocoa farmers, who remain central to Ghana’s economic stability.
The Finance Minister clarified that margins, fees, and rates for all other stakeholders in the cocoa value chain remain unchanged. Meanwhile, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will continue rolling out interventions aimed at sustaining cocoa production and safeguarding farmer welfare.
Key support programmes to be intensified include the supply of free fertilizers (liquid and granular), insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers to cocoa farmers nationwide.
Dr. Forson also highlighted COCOBOD’s educational initiative, noting that the Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers will commence in the 2026/27 academic year.
“The government is determined to ensure that cocoa farming remains both profitable and sustainable, despite global market fluctuations,” the minister stated, adding that these interventions reflect a long-term strategy to boost productivity and secure the livelihoods of farming households.
