Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has revealed that parliamentary candidates whose results were revoked by the supreme court on Friday, December 27 are ineligible to be sworn in come January 6, 2025.
Addressing the parliament last Saturday, the speaker commended the supreme court for supporting his stance on the re – collated results describing the declaration of the mp- elects as ‘unlawful’. “The decision of the Supreme Court just followed the position I took before they even delivered their decision. To become a member of parliament, you have to be elected by the voter, and you have to be declared by the electoral commission.” Bagbin said.
He further described himself as the gatekeeper in parliament and emphasized on the need to do things appropriately in order to reset Ghana. “They were unknown to the law and so they were not properly so-called MPs-elect and not qualified to be sworn in by me. he concluded.
Meanwhile the supreme court has revoked re-collated results for four constituencies; Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South describing the results as inaccurate whilst reinstating the wins of the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidates.
