Ghanaian actor, Mikky Osei Berko says he is devastated whenever he sees foreign contents been showed on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s media channels.
Dada Boat as he popularly called during an interview on Joy primes’ changes show explained that the role of a national media house, is to focus on the promotion of local contents rather than the foriegn ones.
He chastised the managers of GBC for airing foriegn contents on national media “A lot of TV stations show about 80% foreign content. Even the national television station, and that is sad. It makes me shed tears anytime I see GBC showing foreign content. For what?”
The actor added that the situation is one of the causes of the struggling Ghanaian movie industry and advises GBC to emulate Nigeria’s state owned media whose priority for pushing local contents on its platform is key.
He explicitly clarified that the Ghanaian film Industry is not dead. He is calling on the government to introduce legislative instruments that will prevent media houses from airing foriegn contents in order to awaken the film industry.
He declared that he will stage a one – man protest that will put an end to airing foriegn contents on the local media outlets. “If it’s not stopped, one day I’ll have a one-man demonstration to help stop it because it’s killing our industry and economy”.
