The Progressive People’s Party PPP has registered it’s disapproval on the Electoral Commission’s EC decision to rerun elections for the Dome – Kwabenya constituency.
A press statement signed by Nana Ofori Owusu on December 30, 2024, calls out EC’s decision to rerun the Dome Kwabenya constituency elections as unlawful and a ploy to twist the outcome of the elections. “This bizarre decision of the EC is an attempt to influence the outcome of the Dome – Kwabenya constituency parliamentary elections to favor the New Patriotic Party candidate, who clearly lost to the NDC candidate.” it said.
It further clarified that the EC’s decision to rerun the Dome Kwabenya constituency elections was as a result of their own polling station officers using a trainee form to declare the results instead of the original pink sheet and emphasized that the EC’s decision is not enshrined under the constitutional instruments of the land.
Again, the release then cautioned the EC on acting according to the regulations of the Ghanaian constitution “the EC’s decision is not backed by regulation contained in C.I. 127. The EC should be reminded that even though it is given the authority to conduct elections, such authority and conduct must be regulated by rules contained in the C.I. 127.”
The PPP finally urged the NDC to stand by its victory, “We urge the NDC to stand by its victory and take necessary actions if the need arises.
