Former Presidential Staffer Ibrahim Adjei Defends Charlotte Osei’s Removal, Citing Procurement Breaches.

Former Presidential staffer, Ibrahim Adjei, has come out strongly in defense of the removal of former Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, highlighting what he described as serious procurement violations during her tenure.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Mr. Adjei addressed growing arguments that Mrs. Osei should have been allowed to continue in her role. He noted that while the conversation has often been clouded by political sentiments and gender narratives, the facts surrounding her removal were rooted in verifiable breaches of Ghana’s procurement laws.

“There were clear and damning procurement infractions,” Adjei stated, stressing that Mrs. Osei’s actions, particularly in awarding contracts without due process, constituted grounds for her dismissal. He added that her conduct undermined transparency and accountability in a critical democratic institution.

Charlotte Osei was removed from office in 2018 following a recommendation by a committee established by the Chief Justice, which found her guilty of misbehavior and incompetence after investigations into petitions submitted by some EC staff.

According to Adjei, allowing Osei to remain in office despite those findings would have set a dangerous precedent and weakened institutional integrity. “This was not about politics. It was about law and administrative justice,” he emphasized.

The former staffer’s remarks come amid renewed public debate about the circumstances of Osei’s removal, with some civil society voices suggesting that she was unfairly targeted. However, Adjei urged Ghanaians to scrutinize the official reports and not fall for political spin.

The issue remains a polarizing one in Ghanaian political discourse, as many continue to evaluate the balance between legal accountability and political fairness.
