Four Independent MPs Join Forces with Majority: A New Era in Ghanaian Politics.

By: Kenneth Appiah Bani

In a significant development in Ghana’s parliamentary landscape, four independent Members of Parliament (MPs) have decided to do business with the Majority group, led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This revelation was made by Kwame Agbodza, the Majority Chief Whip and MP for Adaklu, during a parliamentary session.

According to Agbodza, the four independent MPs, namely:

  1. Ohene Kwame Frimpong – Asante Akim North Constituency
  2. Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) – Gomoa Central Constituency
  3. Worlasi Kpeli – Afram Plains North Constituency
  4. Nandaya Yaw Stanley – Wulensi Constituency

will collaborate with the Majority group, which currently boasts 187 members from the NDC. In contrast, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 88 members. This new alliance is expected to further solidify the NDC’s dominance in Parliament.

The decision of the four independent MPs to join forces with the Majority group may have significant implications for Ghanaian politics. It could potentially lead to more effective governance, as the Majority group will now have even greater numerical strength to push through its legislative agenda.

However, it remains to be seen how this development will affect the dynamics of parliamentary proceedings. The Minority group, led by the NPP, may need to reassess its strategy in light of this new alliance.

As Ghana’s parliamentary landscape continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the NDC’s Majority group has emerged even stronger, thanks to the support of the four independent MPs.
