The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed, has expressed concern over the discovery of recruits who allegedly used falsified examination results to gain admission into training for Ghana’s security services.
According to the Minister, the affected individuals had already been accepted into training before their academic results were subsequently verified with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The verification exercise reportedly revealed that the results presented by a number of the recruits did not correspond with the records held by WAEC. As a result, some of the recruits were dismissed from training after it was established that they had allegedly submitted fraudulent results.
Muntaka Mohammed said he was particularly concerned about how the individuals managed to pass the initial recruitment and selection processes despite presenting results that were later found to be inconsistent with WAEC records.
He indicated that he could not understand how some of the recruits managed to get through the recruitment process in the first place, given the discrepancies uncovered during the subsequent verification.
The Minister further disclosed that recruits found to have falsified their academic credentials have been blacklisted. This means they will not be eligible to apply to join any of Ghana’s security services in the future.
The development has raised questions about the effectiveness of the initial screening process for security service applicants and the need for stronger verification mechanisms before recruits are admitted into training.
The Interior Minister’s comments underscore the importance of authentic academic credentials in the recruitment of personnel for Ghana’s security agencies. The subsequent checks with WAEC demonstrate the need for applicants’ qualifications to be independently verified before they are allowed to proceed through the recruitment process.
The government’s decision to dismiss and blacklist individuals found to have used fraudulent results is also expected to discourage prospective applicants from attempting to manipulate the recruitment system with falsified academic documents.
