President John Dramani Mahama during an address in parliament yesterday announced government’s intention to revive the Onuador healthcare vans.

This project is intended to provide “OPD, ophthalmology, dental, Ear, nose and throat – ENT, and cancer screening care services to patients in remote and vulnerable communities.

The president lamented over the suspension of the project in 2017 after he left office and has promised to take on the project in his current administration. “An earlier attempt to provide mobile healthcare facilities was abandoned after the change of government in 2017” he said.

Eventhough the government has not cited funds that will be allocated towards the delivery of the Onuador health care services, the president highligted its intentions to collaborate with the National Health Insurance Authority in order to provide access to healthcare services. “Working with the NHIA, we will revive the ONUADOR mobile healthcare vans to provide OPD, ophthalmology, dental, ENT, and cancer screening care in remote and vulnerable communities.” it ended

The president made this comment during his maiden State Of the Nation Address on Feburary 28, 2025.
