Suspected thieves have raided the Sokoban Krofrom Palace in the Ashanti Region, making away with the sacred black stool and other valuable items.
According to members of the Adumasa royal family, the incident occurred while the newly installed chief and other family elders were at the Manhyia Palace to swear the oath of allegiance. Upon their return, they discovered that the palace had been invaded, and the revered black stool had been stolen.
In Akan tradition, the black stool is a powerful symbol of authority, leadership, and spirituality. It embodies the history, traditions, and values of a royal lineage, making its theft a significant cultural and spiritual loss.
Speaking on the Ghanakoma Morning Show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, Kwadwo Antwi, a member of the royal family, described the attack as shocking and distressing.
“We were here when six heavily built men armed with machetes and guns stormed the palace. They vandalized the metal gate, ransacked the palace, and made away with the black stool and other valuables,” he recounted.
He further revealed that all the palace rooms were broken into, and elders who attempted to resist the attack were assaulted.
“Our elderly family members who confronted them were beaten mercilessly, while women mourned as they watched our sacred items being taken away,” he added.
The incident has created tension within the royal family and the broader Sokoban Krofrom community. Family members are reportedly living in fear and have called on security agencies to ensure their safety and recover the stolen items.
Police officers have since visited the palace and launched an investigation into the matter. Kwadwo Antwi expressed confidence that justice will be served and urged the community, especially the royal family, to remain calm.
Authorities are yet to make any arrests as investigations continue.
