The management of the University of Ghana (UG) has denied allegations that it collected approximately GHc11 million in graduation fees without providing medallions and scroll holders to graduands.

In a statement released by the UG’s Public Affairs Directorate, the university refuted claims made by some media houses labeling them as misleading and inaccurate.

According to the statement, each of the 15,776 expected graduands paid a graduation fee of GHc500, totaling GHc7,888,000 – not GHc11 million as reported.

The fee, according to the statement covers essential services, including gown rental, congregation publication, graduation medallion, scroll holder, university souvenir, water, and administrative costs.

The university clarified that while all listed items were provided, procurement delays affected the distribution of medallions and scroll holders.

A notice dated February 10, 2025, had already informed graduands of the delay. The university assured graduands that these items would be made available in due time.

The university’s statement comes after social media platforms were flooded with claims of the alleged misconduct, prompting concerns among graduands and the general public.
