The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) has issued a directive declaring the Tordze River in the Volta Region Safe for consumption.

Despite this confirmation, the body has further advised residents of the Tordze community and it’s environs to treat water from the river source before consumption or for other domestic purposes.
“We strongly advise the public, especially residents and communities that rely on the Tordze, to consume only treated water from the river while we await the results of ongoing laboratory investigations” the release signed by signed by VRCC Chief Director Augustus Awiti stated.
However, samples from the Tordze river have been sent to the Ghana Standards Authority and the Central Laboratory of the Ghana Water Company Limited for further analysis concerning the state of the river.
Notably no sign of deceased aquatic animals were found in or around the river water bodies, hospitals in the community have also not recorded any communicable disease cases.
Conclusively the Volta Regional Coordinating Council have promised to
collaborate with officials from Togo to identify the exact location of the chemical spillage in order to identify the chemicals involved.
