The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has strongly refuted allegations that 20 renal patients died due to a shortage of dialysis consumables.
According to the hospital, there is “no record of any deaths during the period of shortages at the Renal Dialysis Unit.”
In addition, management dismissed claims that the hospital owes GHC6 million to the supplier of these consumables.
“The Ministry of Health has settled the arrears with our suppliers. Korle Bu does not owe GHC6 million as falsely alleged,” the statement clarified.
The hospital further announced that steps are being taken to resume outpatient services by the end of the week.
“Regarding the reopening of the Dialysis Unit, we received a new shipment of consumables through the Tema port last week. We are currently in the process of clearing a second shipment with the support of the Ministries of Health and Finance. Inpatient dialysis services resumed on Monday, August 12, and we expect to restore outpatient services by the end of this week,” the management assured.
