The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intention to stage nationwide demonstrations on September 17, 2024, in response to concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) management of discrepancies in the voter register.
The party’s grievances arose during the recent voter exhibition exercise, where several irregularities in the register were identified. Despite a meeting with the EC to address these issues, the NDC’s request for a forensic audit of the voter register was rejected by the commission.
Following the submission of presidential nomination forms on behalf of John Mahama, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah informed the media that the party had decided to move forward with nationwide protests.
On September 17, demonstrators will march to the EC offices in all 16 regional capitals, with national executives delivering a formal petition at the EC headquarters in Accra.
“Asiedu Nketiah stressed, “On September 17, the NDC will organize massive protests in all 16 regional capitals. We will march to the Electoral Commission offices, and in Accra, we will head to the headquarters to present further petitions, demanding the EC conduct itself in a manner that ensures peaceful, free, and fair elections.”
