Renowned Kumawood actress Clara Benson, popularly known as Maame Serwaa, has refuted claims that producers in Ghana’s film industry demand sexual favors in exchange for acting roles. Speaking in an interview on Onua FM on March 6, 2025, she shared her experiences and plans for the future, emphasizing her commitment to nurturing young talents.

According to Maame Serwaa, while concerns about ‘sex for roles’ have deterred some aspiring actors, she has never encountered such demands in her career. “People have talents in Ghana, but they are scared to pursue acting because of the things they’ve heard. Some parents are even reluctant to let their children enter the industry,” she noted.

However, she firmly stated that the producers she has worked with are reputable professionals who would never make such unethical demands. “The people and producers I’ve worked with are big names in the industry, and they have never and will never ask for sex in exchange for a role,” she affirmed.

Beyond addressing these concerns, Maame Serwaa revealed her ambition to transition into film production. “I’ve always been interested in learning more about the industry beyond acting. I want to understand how directors and producers work, which is why I’ve decided to start my own productions,” she explained.

She disclosed that she has been nurturing this dream since her school days and has since shared her vision with her management. Her goal is to create opportunities for young talents and provide them with a professional and ethical platform to grow in the industry.

Maame Serwaa lamented how negative perceptions have discouraged many from pursuing their passion for acting. She, however, remains determined to change this narrative by proving that talent and hard work are the keys to success.

“This is the time to show people that things are not the way they think. If you have the talent, why not use it to become one of the stars we see on screen?” she urged.

With her new venture into production, Maame Serwaa aims to provide a platform where young actors can thrive based on merit, ensuring a more transparent and ethical film industry in Ghana.
