Business magnate Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies and founder of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has strongly defended his integrity against allegations of corruption. Speaking candidly, Agyapong emphasized that his conduct in business is a reflection of his Christian values, asserting that his church members at The Church of Pentecost do not believe he is corrupt or greedy.
“I don’t pay bribes,” he declared. “I don’t have a different life in church and a different life in business.”
Dr. Agyapong highlighted the role of his faith and church community in shaping his moral compass. According to him, The Church of Pentecost, where he worships, trains its members with sound biblical doctrines, encouraging them to lead honest and principled lives in every sphere of society including the marketplace.
He addressed the persistent public perception that brands him as corrupt and greedy, expressing disappointment but also understanding. “When people say, ‘Agyapong is corrupt’ or ‘Agyapong is greedy,’ I know that my church members, who truly know me and understand my ethics, do not believe these things,” he explained.
Agyapong’s statement comes amid ongoing public scrutiny of business leaders in Ghana, especially those whose enterprises thrive in the public-private partnership space. His companies, notably Zoomlion, have handled major sanitation contracts across the country often drawing both praise and criticism from the public.
Yet, Agyapong maintains that his faith based principles are at the core of his work ethic and business philosophy. “My life is consistent whether in the church or the boardroom,” he affirmed.
Dr. Agyapong’s comments are a reminder of the complex intersection between faith, public perception, and corporate leadership in Ghana. As the country continues to demand higher standards of accountability and transparency, his words may spark further conversations on the role of personal integrity and religious values in business.
