Member of Parliament for Garu, Thomas Anabah has lamented over the deplorable nature of roads in Garu in the Upper East Region.
In a media interaction on ChanneOne TV, the MP announced that there is not a single tarred road in Garu. This he characterized to the outgone New Patriotic Party government for scrapping all tarred roads in the community with intentions to upgrade them.
“We had tarred roads up until some point. Towards the end of 2023, the NPP government gave the contract to the NPP parliamentary candidate to scrap the tarred roads and replace them with asphalt. And they did nothing afterwards” he cried.
The MP has hinted that the egregious nature of the roads has resulted in about 45% increase in pneumonia cases in the vicinity. “as we speak, there isn’t a meter of coal tar road in Garu and the cases of Pneumonia have increased by 45% because of the dust.” he lamented.
He further attacked the previous government for suspending the project which was aimed at building asphalt roads after removing previously tarred roads in the community.
