Anti-Witchcraft Bill Reintroduced To Parliament.

Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu in a memo addressed to the clerk of parliament wishes to reintroduce the Anti Witchcraft bill to the 9th parliament for consideration.

The bill which seeks to protect women from witchcraft accusations whilst providing protection for those who have been accused of witchcraft and condemned to camps was passed in parliament in July, 2023.

Despite parliamentary approval, efforts from some governmental organizations including the commission on human rights and administrative justice (CHRAJ) and the public, the bill was not assented by the president to passed into law.

The president of the eight parliament, Nana Akufo-Addo cited potential financial constraints on the country’s consolidated fund as the reason for not assenting the bill.

In commemoration of the international women’s day on March 8, 2025 the Madina MP of parliament wishes to reintroduce the bill into parliament for reconsideration and assent from the president to be passed as law.

Mr. Sosu has rallied for the support of some notable member of parliament who have agreed to back the anti witchcraft bill in parliament. These nine MP’s affiliated with the bill are ;

  3. Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw – Mp for Wa East
  4. Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba -Mp for Pusiga
  5. Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi – Mp for Asante-Akim Central
  6. Helen Adjoa Ntoso- Mp for Krachi West
  7. Dzifa Gomashie – Mp for Ketu South)
  8. Zuwera Ibrahimah -Salaga South
  9. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah -Mp for La-Dadekotopon.

Francis Xavier Sosu has vowed to see the the implementation of the bill in order to protect the rights of women who have been condemned with witchcraft.
