Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that his campaign team were not in agreement with his decision to concede early defeat during the 2024 general elections.
Addressing a gathering of party supporters yesterday at his residence, He said his reason for his early declaration of defeat is to preserve Ghana’s democracy and to ease tensions that had brewed up during the season. “You know, so if you wait, you build up more tension and violence could come because people would think we are trying to rig the election because that is the message that was coming, that we were trying to rig the election.” Dr. Bawumia elaborated .
He hinted on the party’s concern for awaiting the Electoral Commission’s official declaration before conceding defeat however, he assured them that “there is always a first time for everything” and justifies it with the results from their system.
Dr. Bawumia then expressed his appreciation to all party supporters and urged them to continue standing by the party’s ideologies and principles.
Meanwhile, official declaration from the Electoral Commission revealed that Dr. Bawumia pulled a 41.61% votes cast whilst his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress pulled a 56.55% vote cast declaring him as the president – elect of the republic of Ghana.
