Burkinabe Defence Attaché Visits Ghana Military Academy to Strengthen Bilateral Military Ties

Colonel Yves-Patrick Ouedraogo, the newly appointed Defence Attaché (DA) of Burkina Faso to Ghana, paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) on Thursday, 5 September 2024. The meeting, held at Whistler Barracks in Teshie, was with the Acting Commandant of the GMA, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Charles Agyeman Prempeh.

The primary objective of Colonel Ouedraogo’s visit was to formally introduce himself as the new DA and to reinforce the longstanding diplomatic and military relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso. The two leaders also explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in defense and security.

Brig Gen Agyeman Prempeh welcomed Colonel Ouedraogo, congratulating him on his new appointment. He pledged the full support of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and emphasized the significance of their military partnership. He underscored that collaboration between the two nations is essential for safeguarding their territorial integrity and addressing the escalating security challenges emerging from the Sahel region. Additionally, the Commandant highlighted the GAF’s efforts in providing French language training to its officers to improve communication during joint operations and exercises.

Colonel Ouedraogo expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and commended the GAF for its pivotal role in training Burkinabe officers through exchange programs between the GMA and Burkina Faso’s military academy. He advocated for the revitalization of these exchange initiatives to further strengthen military cooperation.

The visit concluded with Brig Gen Agyeman Prempeh presenting a commemorative plaque to Colonel Ouedraogo, symbolizing the renewed commitment to bilateral military cooperation.
