Family Announces Final Funeral Arrangements for Akua Donkor.

The family of the late Akua Donkor has officially announced the details of her final funeral rites, set to take place in March 2025, following her passing on October 28, 2024.

As the founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor defied societal norms and became a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics. Despite lacking formal education, she demonstrated unwavering determination, advocating for the rights of rural communities and championing the voices of ordinary Ghanaians. Her courage and resilience made her a symbol of empowerment, particularly for women and marginalized groups.

Throughout her political career, Akua Donkor was known for her outspoken nature, grassroots activism, and unconventional approach to leadership. She contested multiple elections, fearlessly challenging the status quo and pushing for the representation of farmers and rural dwellers in governance. Her legacy as a bold and unapologetic politician remains firmly etched in Ghana’s political history.

Her final funeral rites will commence on Saturday, March 29, 2025, with a laying-in-state at Ejuratia from 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM, allowing family, friends, and supporters to pay their last respects. A burial service will follow at the same venue from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Later that afternoon, the final funeral rites will continue at Ejuratia from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where mourners will gather to celebrate her life and contributions to Ghanaian society.

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Ejuratia from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, after which a final funeral gathering will take place from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Akua Donkor’s passing marks the end of an era for grassroots politics in Ghana. She was an advocate for farmers, women, and the underprivileged, using her platform to voice the concerns of everyday Ghanaians. Her funeral is expected to draw political figures, supporters, and dignitaries who admired her resilience and dedication to public service.
